Cynthia the World's First Mannequin Influencer

Lester Gaba, an artist based in New York City, created Cynthia, a one-hundred-pound plaster model that appeared more genuine and human than other mannequins at that time.

In the United States, she quickly rose to star status. A Life Magazine photoshoot in which Gaba took Cynthia around New York City and posed with her, which boosted her reputation.

Cynthia evolved into what is currently known as a brand ambassador.

Cynthia's reputation did not end with being invited to events; firms began sending her jewellery, clothing, and other items. She even received massive amounts of fan letters. Saks Fifth Avenue also issued her a credit card.

She even had her own newspaper column, a box seat at the Metropolitan Opera House, and a successful radio show.

Things came full circle when she made her way to Hollywood in 1938 to star in the film Artists and Models Abroad.

Cynthia's life ended when she fell from a chair inside a beauty parlour and smashed to pieces. The media reported on this occurrence as though she had died, but her legacy carried on.
